ABOUT THE COURSE

Future School is a free, 6-week virtual workshop series bringing Angelenos together to learn about local climate solutions, connect with community, and take action for more resilient neighborhoods across LA.

Systems Thinking

This isn't about perfecting your recycling. Individual choices matter, but they happen inside much bigger systems. We’ll look at the policies, infrastructure, institutions, and histories that shape what choices are available in the first place.

Hyperlocal Solutions

Across 6 weekly workshops, we’ll bring LA’s climate solutions to life through the people already building them. Meet local leaders and organizations, explore real projects happening across our neighborhoods, and learn tangible ways to plug in, contribute, and be part of those local solutions.

Radical Imagination

Climate action can’t only be about stopping bad things from happening. We also need space to imagine the good stuff: cooler streets, cleaner air, abundant public spaces, affordable homes, thriving ecosystems, and neighborhoods built around care.

A DIFFERENT APPROACH

Our climate future is a group project.

This isn't a course you just sit through. Each session brings in a different local org, so you're learning directly from the people doing the work, then putting it into practice through hands-on activities and real LA case studies. Every week also comes with offline ways to take it further, from volunteer opportunities and group chats to community events happening right here in LA.

6 Weekly 
Virtual Workshops

  • We'll take stock of the global climate movement, define what resilience really means, and meet each other!

  • Cool spaces, cool ideas: how parks, shade, and smarter design can bring LA's rising temperatures back down to earth.

  • From smog to smoke to what powers our homes, we’ll explore how LA is fighting for cleaner air and energy that works for everyone, beyond fossil fuels.

  • Food, water, housing, the everyday essentials, and what it takes to make them work for every Angeleno.

  • Nothing wasted, everything reimagined: how reuse and repair are rewriting LA's relationship with stuff.

  • Capstone day: sharing the solutions we've built to help shape real local policy and change, then coming together to reflect, celebrate, and mobilize for what's next.
